Time to put a roof on this house. Just taking delivery of the roofing metal seemed like a victory, but there was much more work to be done.
It happened to be the hottest time of the year here while I was working on this. Under the metal roof of the barn with the sun beaming down on it, I was working on my metal roof, with spotlights also beaming. I have never sweated so much in my life. At least I got to test it's waterproofness.

Shingling shingling and more shingling!
It took a while to get my head in to the shingling, but I managed to find a good rhythm. However rhythm or no rhythm, shingling is extremely time consuming!
The second wall went well, I had to figure out a good method for cutting the shingles at an angle when they hit the roofline. Going up and down the ladder while making custom shingles meant that each one could take up to 5 minutes to install!

No more self-imposed deadlines. I'm not sure why I keep giving myself deadlines to meet, because I undoubtedly don't meet them and get disappointed. I have decided to just keep working at it and try not to think too far ahead.
Without any detailed plans to go off I kept my 'wing it' approach to the utility box as I added trim and the roof sheathing. Cutting pieces on the fly, it felt good to not be overthinking, just building.

A little more work got the roofing insulation fully installed. Not I could finally start thinking about sheathing the roof. While I was figuring this out, Mo gave me a hand finishing off staining the fascia boards.
It took me a little while to get going with the sheathing, as there were a few details to consider, but once I had the first piece installed the rest came together fairly easily. It's been a while. I have been working hard though. Watch a time lapse to see what I have been up to:
I had been working on the fascia boards on-and-off for a while now. Once I finished cutting them to size and got them test fitted, I then had to remove all of the boards in order to sand them down, especially the rough cut ends.
Before installing the boards for real, we had to decide on what we actually want to house to look like on the outside. This is something I have been thinking about since day one, but now was decision time. After having spent months looking at houses in my area I Continue reading →
I'm getting back in to the swing of things. Watch a time lapse to see what I have been up to:
The first job after the break was to continue building the utility box on the tongue of the trailer. I finished off the framing, securing it to the house and then moved on to sheathing it. For this I used all scrap pieces of plywood, which I have in abundance. I also applied several coats of sealant to the bottom of the box to give it a little moisture protection.
Carly and I then started making the fascia boards that run down the entire length of the house and fitting them in place. Continue reading →
