I put together this (almost) all-gravel route from my home town of Courtenay to the northern tip of Vancouver Island, known as Cape Scott. This is a wild and remote area and not for the faint of heart. It was while cycling part of this route that I got the idea of connecting Cape Scott and Cape Spear in Newfoundland by bike.

Good day considering late start. Tougher than expected to Campbell River. Dick's Fish & Chips was a treat. Beer too!

The recreation sites around Campbell Lake were all full. Currently in my tent listening to crickets and screaming children!

Good ride along lake to highway. I saw an owl! Old railway overgrown so had to take powerline service road... bit of pushing!

Highway to Gold River was OK. Great pizza and beer in Gold River!

Good steady day. Some nice views, not many people till Woss. Met some hikers and had a nice chat. Weird getting into Woss, a highway stop is very different from being in the bush.

I went to an odd hotel there for beer and a burger, a short resupply and then back out on the trail.

I found a completely untouched old growth forest by a river. Stepping into it from the dusty logging road felt like steping through a curtain in time. Walking amoungst huge trees on a clear forest floor felt very primal... what we were designed for!
