Hungerless in Seattle

Unfortunately Vancouver’s public transport had left me with a bit of a nasty cold but I wasn’t going to let that spoil my fun. Armed with a pocket full of tissues me and my couch surfing host Vibhor went for indian food (my first since leaving the UK!) before heading to a late night funk bar. I spent my second day with a Spanish couch surfer Sofia who is living in Seattle. We visited a few of the sights like the bubble gum wall and even ‘rode the ducks‘ ā€“ sitting on board a duck themed World War II amphibious landing craft which gives you a tour of Seattle’s streets and Lake Union… with loud music! Which was fun. Sofia was a great tourist companion and we ended up staying out late drinking and I had to walk an hour home instead of the bus. Day two started with gourmet brunch of baked eggs and chorizon. The kitchen was open and from our seats we could watch the chefs prepare our food. After brunch I met up with Andy who was my gracious host during my last trip to Seattle. We visited Ballard Locks which links the salt water Puget Sound to Lake Union. There is also an impressive fish ladder with glass inspection windows which was fascinating as the salmon are currently running. Topping this off Andy and I visited a barbecue diner where I had a brisket sandwich and a pint – followed by some more beer. A very nice way to end a day. Now I head down to Portland where I hope to sample lots of local beers.
